William A. Grant Water and Environmental Center Addition
The William A. Grant Water and Environmental Center at Walla Walla Community College opened in October of 2007 to serve as a center of innovation for watershed management and sustainability education. A partnership between Walla Walla Community College and the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation (CTUIR) has made it essential to expand the facility.
This project consists of a 15,000 square-foot addition to the existing 10,000 square-foot building (also designed by ALSC) to house research laboratories, classrooms and offices. CTUIR will locate 20-30 professional scientist and technicians in the new space to research and implement practices on salmon and other aquatic life recovery as well as habitat restoration throughout the watershed basins located in their ceded lands.
ALSC Architects, in partnership with the client, is striving to create an efficient and sustainable building with demonstration spaces within the building and the landscape. The facility is targeting a LEED™ Gold rating, reflecting the client’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
