ALSC Architects

There are always a wide-range of design projects on the boards at ALSC.

While we can’t share all the details with you, we can give you a glimpse of where we’re headed on some interesting places and spaces.

Lionel Hampton School of Music

This project involves a phased expansion and renovation of the Lionel Hampton School of Music Building. The design was guided by principles established by the building committee and faculty during the master planning effort including a clear and improved identity and visibility, straight-forward way finding, an abundance of natural day lighting and a functional core that supports music education. The 40,000 square foot addition and 35,000 square foot renovation support and fulfill these design principles and the overall mission of the School of Music. Sustainability and sound environmental awareness practices, along with building material choices, honor the campus master plan and building standards.

The building is reorganized around an efficient plan which maintains the integrity of the existing building while reflecting the School of Music’s familial culture. The addition is organized around a new two-story social atrium space. The atrium allows natural light to enter the building’s core and provides opportunities to locate classrooms and offices on the interior. Vertical circulation is strategically located at each end of the atrium, balancing accessibility and “way finding” within the entire building.
