Two ALSC Projects Receive LEED Certification

At Gonzaga University, the PACCAR Center for Applied Science has received LEED Gold certification. This 25,000 square foot addition includes classrooms, offices and computer labs; addressing growth and expansion within engineering programs and an overall campus population expansion. A vital part of the building’s mission is to honor Green Building Practices. The building is intended to be a demonstration site for engineering principles that promote energy conservation and sustainability in design and construction practices. Strategies include management of natural daylight, optimizing energy efficiency through natural and mechanical systems, integration of recycled materials and greatly increasing indoor air quality.

The William A. Grant Water & Environmental Center at Walla Walla Community College has received LEED Silver certification. The 10,500 square foot building features an expandable office cluster along with five rooms of various sizes and a circular collaboration hall. The Center stands as an example of the region’s commitment of conserving, managing, and enhancing the Walla Walla Watershed. The building itself is evidence of a milestone in progress towards addressing water management and environmental restoration issues. Sustainable features of the design include minimum site disturbance, reduced water usage, reduced construction waste, improved indoor air quality, natural daylighting and reduced energy consumption.
