On Thursday, September 18th, the Spokane Chapter of the American Institute of Architects held its 2008 Design Awards program. 22 projects were submitted by Architects from the Spokane region.
The jury recognized four projects with Design Awards. ALSC Architects was recognized for two projects; the William A. Grant Water & Environmental Center at Walla Walla Community College and the Spokane Hospice House.
The William A. Grant Water & Environmental Center received a Merit Award. The 10,000 square foot building was designed to obtain LEED Gold Certification. Water use reduction and protection of surface water quality are two areas of focus for the project. Other sustainable concepts include extensive use of regionally available materials, natural daylighting, 100% use of green power and indoor air quality.
The Spokane Hospice House was the winner of the coveted 2008 People's Choice Award. The Hospice House was designed as a place where the terminally ill, their families and friends can be cared for during the natural last days of life. The house provides an environment of peace for patients and a place of comfort for families.
