The $28 million McCarthey Athletic Center is the new home for the GU Bulldogs. The 6,000 seat Arena was completed within a 20-month period using a design-build process. The design and construction responded to tight budget parameters and resulted in a spectacular, state-of-the-art athletic center.

To replicate the standing-room-only feeling of the former “Kennel”, McCarthey was designed with steep seating risers, making every seat feel closer to the basketball floor than with normally tiered seating. A powerful speaker cluster hangs over center court, with two high-resolution video displays at each end and two LED boards running the length of the court. A comprehensive media infrastructure accommodates broadcasts from the facility.

Ellerbe Becket served as Design Associate to ALSC for this project.
