The design of the new Northwood Middle School focused on creating a school that nurtures student engagement and encourages collaboration and community involvement.

The new 115,000 square foot school was organized to provide enhanced opportunities for formal and informal learning within a safe, flexible, simple, functional, durable and inspiring educational environment.

A 16,000 square foot portion of the former Northwood was remodeled and connected to the new school including the main gym, auxiliary gym,  choir and band room.

Outdoor athletic facilities include a field for both football and soccer, separate fields for baseball and softball, and another baseball/softball practice field.

"We made the move and the new building is AWESOME! When I ask students what they like best they are quick to say 'the light' or 'the windows' as their first comment. This is followed by 'there’s so much room', 'I love my classroom' and 'I like having stairs.' I personally am astounded when I stand in the commons and look around at how well it all works. Even the floor is a beautiful aggregate cement with bits of colored glass that create a red wing, a blue wing and a green wing. It’s polished, durable and stunning. Students like it and they respect this new space that they have to learn."

Dave Stenersen, (former) Principal, Northwood Middle School
